Abstract :
Various attempts are being made to integrate the widely deployed disparate terrestrial wireless networks in order to provide global roaming. Among the attempts, the handoff is a major concern since it is the basis for any session continuity. This paper aims to provide a handoff in Mobile WiMAX network (IEEE 802.16e). Mobile WiMAX is a fast growing broadband access technology that enables low-cost mobile Internet applications, and realizes the convergence of mobile and fixed broadband access in single air interface and network architecture. This paper reveals some challenges that mobile users face when travelling across different base stations in a Mobile WiMAX environment. One of the main goals when traversing between the networks, as a mobile user, is to ensure the loss of data or loss of connectivity does not occur as a result of handoff. This paper aims to study the handoff latency and throughput performance with respect to different velocities and focuses on simulation approach for conducting investigative studies for this framework.
