Abstract
This paper presents a model-based approach to diagnose performance and communication faults in local area networks (LANs). The diagnostic is based on the idea that if the system has an approximate model of the network, and knows how IP packages travels in the network, it can reason about the causes of alarms. A set of subsystems was developed, to gather the network information, to construct the model, to criticize the model, and to interact with the network in order to gather status information. Some results of experiments are reported.
