Abstract
The paper studies an issue in the management of wireless networks. As SNMP is the most widely used network management protocol, it is natural to adopt SNMP-based management solutions for WLANs. In this aspect, we investigate the behavior of wireless SNMP in different scenarios, specifying particular wireless channel state conditions (good/bad) and background traffic load. The performance of an SNMP-based system is evaluated, using simulations verified by measurements. What if SNMP were concurrent? Will it flood a network with management traffic or would it improve the performance of wireless SNMP? The lessons learned from the simulation performed on "serial" and "concurrent" SNMP are also discussed.
