Abstract
This paper proposes the use of “ personal DSP” to enhance the learning productivity of students having mixed experience and ability levels via hands-on homework and self-study. Individual PC-based DSP laboratories are now available to these learners because remarkable advances in IC technology and software techniques such as GUIs are helping to easily present work done, to advance theoretical concepts in DSP, by many researchers more than two decades ago. It is desirable for electronic engineering undergraduates to acquire a working knowledge of finite word length effects and related scaling problems. Software simulation of digital filters and controllers is an important step; this frequently omitted procedure should be carried out to avoid trouble later in a real-time environment. There are a number of educational DSP programs. DSPworld, a PC-based software package is discussed
