Abstract
Similar remote controller area network (CAN) applications may need to communicate with each other or a central management system for purposes such as downloading programs and downloading/uploading parameters and information. The paper describes the use of a CAN in a traffic control system (TCS) communicating with a central management unit (CMU) over wireless asynchronous transfer mode (WATM). CAN over WATM mapping using an encapsulation technique is also presented as an important part of the TCS and CMU internetworking system. Two different ATM service classes are utilized to provide the required quality of service for the data transfer between TCS and CMU.
