Abstract
The design of IPv6 started more than 10 years ago. Despite many host and router implementations and the commitment of several providers to introduce IPv6, it is still lacking large-scale deployment. However, there is no question that IPv6 will be deployed, the question is when that will happen. But instead of attempting to predict that point of time, this paper discusses the background and obstacles which defer deployment of IPv6 and outlines the areas which need more emphasis to make IPv6 finally a success.
