Abstract :
Optical manipulation by using evanescent field of ion-exchanged channel waveguide has been demonstrated. Channel waveguide designs can be further optimised to increase evanescent field prior to the fabrication process. Parameters such as physical geometry (width and thickness of channel waveguides) and optical properties (polarisation and wavelength) are optimized through a series of simulation. The simulated value found that for a copper ion-exchanged waveguide, the optimised width and thickness is 1μm and 10μm respectively. TE polarisation and wavelength specific to physical geometry can be used to obtain the optimum evanescent field. The simulation results are properly presented and discussed in this paper.
