Abstract :
A description is given of a hypothetical expert diagnosis and repair system (EDARS), and it is shown what features and structures are desirable for a time-efficient and adaptable system. EDARS is used to diagnose and repair a system being monitored. EDARS uses a unique knowledge base which includes rules, past diagnosis information, and information to perform physical modeling of the system. EDARS has a sensing network used to monitor a ´sick´ system, and a mechanical action network to execute commands in order to change the state of the monitored system. With the elimination of the human operator from the data collection and the data-processing phases, the system operates in a time-efficient manner.<>
