Abstract :
A prototype of an energy storage system with a lithium-ion battery for a DC railway, whose scale is 1/8, is developed. A numerical model is also proposed for a final design of the actual system. The DC/DC converter installed in the system is simply expressed by a current source. The battery model takes into account the state-of-charge dependency of the battery voltage and its internal resistor. From the field test results using the prototype, the effectiveness of the proposed system is confirmed. The estimated results for the actual system by the simulation indicate that its efficiency and the line voltage fluctuation are improved
