Abstract
This study cross examines consumers´ diverse switching behavior in various product categories, by proposing the Purchase Preference Attenuation Curve to describe the changes in consumers´ choice and purchase of frequently purchased items within an estimated period. Extensive experiments were carried out with panel data across multiple retail / online stores and vending machines collected in Tokyo metropolitan area in Japan to obtain a holistic view of purchase behavior in various product categories. Various analysis were carried out to demonstrate the application of this methodology which could optimize operations and marketing strategy.
