Abstract
Interference management in two-tier networks is a critical component in realizing the spectrum sharing gains from such networks. We consider a centralized cellular network to be the primary tier of the network and an ad-hoc device to device network to be the secondary tier. Traditional link discovery techniques that manage interference within a single tier network are not designed for dealing with the inter-network interference in such overlaid networks. We propose an autonomous power efficient link discovery protocol, D2DR, that reduces the interference on the primary network from the secondary tier. Our main results will show an improvement in route discovery probability compared to existing route discovery protocols as well as a reduction in the number of transmissions necessary to discover a route.
