Abstract
In this paper, we have modeled a steam boiler in mixed logic dynamical (MLD) framework which is one of the hybrid modeling structures. It is capable of modeling different types of systems like constrained hybrid systems, finite state machines and so on. Having found a proper model, we have controlled the plant using model predictive approach since this control strategy has been largely accepted in industrial plants, especially the constrained multivariable control systems. The design of controller is based on both on-line and off-line MPC approaches which are implicit and explicit forms of the MPC control respectively. Finally, the control performance has been illustrated by simulations. The results show that the off-line control law is easier to implement reducing to a look up table in comparison with on-line method.
