Abstract
The paper presents the results of the investigations of the behaviour of different fractal characteristics of textured images with complex pattern structure with fingerprint images as the experimental base. Two fractal characteristics-mass estimate of fractal dimension (EFD), and grid EFD (GEFD) are tested and local and global fingerprint fractal properties, based on these estimates are described. It is shown that both mass EFD and GEFD are insensitive to transformations, which don´t corrupt image structure (such as shifts and rotations) and sensitive to distortions of image structure. The types of distortions to which they are sensitive, are detected. The possibilities of application of EFDs to fingerprint analysis are discussed
