Abstract
The paper deals with the possibilities available for testing the industrial distributed systems (field buses) and their components. It especially focuses on erroneous state handling tests, caused by the external electromagnetic disturbances. Although the common approach is the same for any field bus standard, each of them has some specific attributes that have to be taken into account. Above mentioned common approach is therefore illustrated by the example based on the CAN (Controller Area Network) standard. A special instrument (test generator) was developed to meet all the specific test requirements; its design, features, parameters and usage are presented as well. The most important attribute of the presented approach is in providing the exactly defined and repeatable test conditions.
