Abstract
A new method using cosine transform to calculate response spectra from strong motion earthquake records is developed. Compared to Exact, Wilson-θ and Newmark method, the proposed method has a higher accuracy in displacement and velocity response spectra under greater damping ratios and a lower accuracy in acceleration response spectra. The values of EI Centro response spectra calculated by cosine transform are consistent with the Exact method under different damping ratios, which further confirm the accuracy and reliability of the proposed method.
