Abstract :
By setting up wind observing towers in Luoma Lake, Suqian City, the northern part of Jiangsu Province, we carry out a year-round observation, then analyze and assess wind energy resources in this area. The current study shows that yearly average wind speed varies in different directions of the lake due to the differences in landform and physiognomy around Luoma Lake. At the standard height of 10 meters, annual average wind speed is obviously higher than the observation record obtained from weather stations, with the maximum record of 4.2m/s in the old wharf of the west bank, and the minimum record of 3.2m/s in Zaohe Tower of the west bank. Around Luoma Lake it usually blows eastward, but wind energy density of NE wind and SE wind is also very high. Wind energy resources vary greatly with seasons in the area of Luoma Lake, which are more abundant in spring and winter than those in summer and autumn. Also, wind energy resources vary greatly with areas, which are rich in the southwest bank while only available in other areas. In these areas, wind energy mainly distributes along the line of NNE-NEENE, which consists of 33.8% of the total wind energy. The results show that the southeast bank is abundant in wind energy resources, so can be exploited for wind power.
