Abstract
As described in our prior papers, we have implemented a system that performs real-time analysis and classification of network traffic using reconfigurable hardware. In this paper, we consider how to optimize the performance and make best use of the hardware resources by simulating the effect of parameter variation. We have devised a systematic method to determine the best parameters for the hardware such that we do not sacrifice the quality of the result. We applied the method to determine how our existing system could best identify the topics of Internet newsgroup postings as the content streams over a Gigabit Ethernet link.
