Abstract
Photonic frequency quadrupling utilizing a lithium niobate phase modulator and a Brillouin-assisted optical filter was experimentally demonstrated for generation of microwave/millimeter-wave (mm-wave) signals. A mm-wave signal having the frequency of 48 GHz was successfully generated using the photonic frequency quadrupling with an electrical source of 12 GHz. Phase noise of the mm-wave signal was -85 dBc/Hz at the offset frequency of 10 kHz.
