Abstract
The flow characteristics of wake behind planar and a type of non-planar porous fences with different porosities have been investigated experimentally in a wind tunnel. About three hundred mean velocity fields for each fence were measured consecutively by hot-wire anemometer. The experimental data were analyzed and wind reduction coefficients for each point were calculated to estimate the shelter effect of porous fence models. The experiment results can be summarized as: (1) the optimum porosity of the planar porous fence is found to be around 0.23-0.32, while that of the non-planar porous fence is around 0.25-0.35; (2) the shelter effect of the planar porous fence is a little better than that of the non-planar porous fence under the same conditions of the porosity, the shape and the distribution of the hole. But with the superiority of the stiffness, the non-planar porous fences do have higher engineering application and promotion prospects.
