Abstract :
In this paper, shock initiation experiments on the explosive RDX-8701 were performed to obtain in-situ pressure gauge data for the purpose of determining the critical gap thicknesses. The pressure waves are got by manganin-constantan composite 2-D Lagrange gauge. The process of initiation has been calculated near the critical point by 2-D Lagrangian analysis method, and discussed the reason. By 2-D Lagrangian analysis method, we gain the Ignition and Growth reactive flow model with proper modeling parameters. The RDX-8701 model was then tested by LS-DYNA code on existing small scale gap tests with good results. The RDX-8701 model can be applied to chock initiation scenarios that have not or cannot be tested experimentally with a high level of confidence in its predictions.
