Abstract :
This paper deals with analytical concepts for the dimensioning of packet switching mobile radio networks. A realistic characterization of source traffic with means of marked Markovian arrival processes (MMAP) serves as an input process for a queuing model. The analysis of this model permits us to derive the quantities of interest and allows us to determine the achievable quality of service, which is quantified in terms of utilization and packet delays. The applicability of the approach is demonstrated by embedding our analysis into the framework of GSM/GPRS.
