  • Abstract
In 3GPP Machine Type Communication (MTC), devices are responsible for periodically collecting data to the MTC server through cellular network. As currently discussed in 3GPP TR 22.368, one of the major open problems in the field of MTC is to improve performance with devices having low mobility. Traditional location tracking in 3GPP is based on tracking area list (TAL). This kind of tracking schemes may include some cells that the device probably not resides, which consequently lead to high paging cost for the MTC device trigger operation. This paper proposes a small scale tracking scheme based on cell-based policy for low mobility device. Our study indicates that the cell- based policy can significantly reduce the paging cost compared with TA-based policy with low mobility MTC devices.
