Abstract :
The analytical expression of the real part of an electromechanical mode eigenvalue is derived from complex mode analysis. Based on the analytical expression, a fast method for electromechanical mode eigenvalue calculation is proposed. The method represents the effects of excitation control with additional equivalent damping coefficient. Then the eigenvalues can be calculated with the state matrix of a power system when generators are represented by the classical model. As the dimension of the state matrix is very low, the method is fast in calculation and can be used in large power systems. A 24-machine power system is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the fast method.
