Abstract
An integrated controller for piezoelectric transformers (PT) is presented. The controller, which includes both the driving and the control circuitry to maximize space saving, can be used to implement small and compact dc-dc converters with high step-up ratios (depending on the PT) on board portable electronic systems. The chip can be supplied from 0.9V to 3.3V and allows the PT to always be driven under the zero voltage switching condition without requiring precise matching between the driving stage and transformer parameters. An adaptive feedback locks the proper switching frequency according to the output power and temperature variations. Experimental results from a prototype are also given.
