Abstract :
Recent advancement on mechatronic design has emphasized on the integration of system modeling into the controller design. This work, thus, investigates the machine tool servo system design based on the solid model and the dynamic simulation tools. The controller design is still based on the mathematically derived system model. Since the computer aided design (CAD) data are available, the model parameters can be estimated from the solid modeling software. The servo design can then be carried out with the regular system design packages. The control design package can then connect to the dynamic simulation package to test the stability and performance of the servo controller. Since the system under control is a CAD model, it is easy to change any design parameter. The CAD data are very precise in describing the actual system. Therefore, the tuning performed on the model is directly applicable to the actual system, and one can expect similar performance as predicted by the simulation.
