Abstract :
The new Viterbi-like time-based phrase-detection algorithm “trace” is described. It is capable of dealing with intersymbol interference (ISI) and moving average (1-D) memory in the additive random jitter on phrases by transforming the finite state space of the phrases to an increasing state space of transition times. The implementation is possible by restricting the search-space to a tunnel around the rounded observed transition times. With known starting time-difference of sender and receiver the new algorithm performs, depending on the type of ISI, about 3 dB better than the ordinary Viterbi-algorithm
