Abstract :
In this paper, a novel high-performance size-reduced fractal-shaped dual planar photonic bandgap (DP-PBG) microstrip low-pass filter is proposed. By employing fractal-shaped geometry of the microstripline, the physical size of the proposed structure reduced significantly compared with the size of the conventional structures, and by employing dual plane arrangement and the square and linear Chebyshev tapering techniques, the proposed structure achieves wideband with high attenuation in the stopband and low ripple level in the passband. The structure was fabricated and tested, and the measured results are found in good agreement with the simulated results.
