Abstract :
Metamaterial research includes trying to realize extreme refractive index properties (e.g. very large, zero or negative values). Bulk material properties are defined by the number density of subwavelength sized meta-atoms which necessarily are electromagnetically coupled together. We investigate the parallels to be drawn with condensed-matter physical models, in particular the RPA.
