Abstract :
The anion-defective crystals α-Al2O3 are perspective materials for ionizing and nonionizing radiation detectors. It is known that the creation in a corundum lattice with a high concentration of oxygen vacancies (F-centers) gives this material the necessary dosimeter properties. The most effective method of creating a high concentration of F-centers is processing of the crystal surface by powerful laser radiation. We irradiate the surface of a α-Al2O3 crystal using a YAG laser. Cathodeluminescence and thermostimulate luminescence measurements are performed to study the crystal defects produced by laser irradiation
