Abstract
Using the MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST) Product in 2001 and 2005, the urban thermal environment of BeiJing-TianJin-Tangshan (J-J-T) region was studied. The results showed that, compared to the suburb and rural areas, the higher urban LST at night was more obvious than during the day in the J-J-T region. Seasonally, the relative high urban LST of the J-J-T region was particularly evident at night in summer and winter seasons. Comparing the urban LST in July of 2001 with 2005, it was shown that with the urban sprawl, the urban LST in July of 2005 was more higher than that in July of 2001 for both of the day and night times in the J-J-T region.
