Title :
Increase in electrical system reliability and reduction in maintenance cost through improved design engineering
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Gujarat refinery has been expanding over the years with various process units. To meet additional loads, in-house energy generation was increased with new plants. In this process, there were many power failures, some of them being total which resulted in enormous losses. This paper describes how in-house studies and corrective actions helped to bring down such failures by 90% within three years and no total failure occurred since 1999.
