Abstract
China is a beautiful country with hundreds of thousands of mountains spreading over the country. Climate change poses a potentially major challenge to social and economic development in China mountain areas. Development is successful if it reduces the vulnerability of mountain areas and poor people to existing climate variability, while also building in the potential to anticipate and react to further changes in climate in the future. We suggest that it is the best way through mainstreaming and integrating climate responses into development processes, rather than by identifying and treating them separately.
