Abstract
Considering the pondermotive force, the transmission of high power microwave beam after air breakdown is studied. It is put forward that for long pulse beam, high-repetition pulses beam and continuous wave beam, the process of air breakdown and transmission is different compared with uniform plane wave. The uneven electric-field distribution will lead to redistribution of electron concentration and will finally form a low density channel, which will allow the microwave energy to transmit fluently. Finally, the breakdown and transmission characteristics of very short pulse, repeated pulses and continuous microwave are analyzed individually.
