Abstract
A Web-based system called KaViDo for collaborative research and development is presented. The architecture of the system including its three layers (presentation layer, development layer, persistence layer) is explained. The goals of KaViDo are to record development processes, manage the competences of distributed experts, exchange user experiences, and assist product development. Therefore six different application modules are presented The practical use of KaViDo is demonstrated by an interdisciplinary student contest. Different groups had to develop, build and program a mobile robot by using the KaViDo system and testing its efficiency.
