Abstract
A novel two-arm hemispherical helical antenna is proposed in this paper. This antenna is composed with two wires winded on the hemisphere surface and fed by coaxial cable at the top joint. Characteristics of the antennas with different turns are analyzed by the moment method, results of which indicate that the ones with (4N+3)/4 turns have better characteristic in VSWR and axial ratio. A prototype antenna with 3.75 turns is made and measured. The results prove this antenna has the characteristics of great bandwidth broad angular range, and circular polarization, showing that it is of great value in satellite communication applications.
