  • Abstract
This paper demonstrates the benefits of employing multiple-antenna receivers in conjunction with power control and multiuser detection for wireless communications. By computing the information capacity region we show that maximum throughput can only be achieved with a non-orthogonal superposition coding multiple-access scheme. Moreover, staggering reductions in transmitter power levels can be expected in comparison to orthogonal multiplexing when power control is employed. This result is shown numerically for line-of-sight channels, and initial findings for slowly-varying narrow-band Rayleigh fading are also discussed
