Abstract :
The pollution load of the tannery wastewater was higher than before with the strict environmental protection laws and implying of water-saving process, and aerobic treatment of tannery wastewater was no longer suitable for treating tannery wastewater with high pollution load. In this paper, the UASB (up flow anaerobic sludge blanket) reactor be used to treat the tannery wastewater with high pollution load, and the multimedia microscope be used to observe the form of anaerobe in the UASB reactor, and the gas chromatography be used to detect organic acid in the UASB reactor. The experiments showed that the UASB reactor be started up successfully within 50 days when using anaerobic sludge as seeds under mesospheric conditions, and the organic matter be biodegraded effectively when the influent COD (chemical oxygen demand) below about 8000mg/L, and anaerobic digestion be restrained greatly when the influent COD up to about 10000mg/L. The typical methanogenic sarcina can be observed in the sludge and there are abundant anaerobic microorganisms such as cocci, short streptococcus and bacillus. The macromolecule organic compounds be degraded into the small molecular organic acids by the acid-producing bacteria at the bottom of UASB reactor, and the small molecular organic acids have been degraded into CH4 and CO2 by the methanogenus. The result demonstrates that the UASB reactor can be good for treatment of tannery wastewater with pollution load. This electronic document is a “live” template.
