Abstract :
The waveform synthesizing methods for a new type three-phase five-level converter are proposed. Method A can produce quasi 18-step voltage waveforms with total harmonic distortion (THD) of 10.67%, but can not control the neutral point voltage of the DC output. Method B can produce voltage waveforms with THD of 10.42% and can control the neutral voltage, but the converter voltages contain relatively larger lower-harmonics. Either method can be used according to circumstances. The predicted results were verified by the simulated and experimental results
