Abstract :
Dual-frequency altimeter JASON1 can provide very high resolution measurements of surface wind speed, significant wave height and rain rate. But in extreme weather events such as typhoon, a wide range of rain will occur, which influences the transmission of microwave signals. We analyze the rainfall effect on normalized radar cross section and the difference between C and Ku band corresponding to the rain rate, and then propose a method to correct the rainfall and estimate the speed wind. Finally, the results are compared to the detailed track information and a good agreement is found.
