  • Abstract
Guaranteed end-to-end QoS for realtime services poses a number of new design and deployment challenges in the next generation broadband convergent networks (BcN). One of the major issues is preserving end-to-end QoS for realtime provisioning during handoff in the converged network. Mobile IP, proposed for mobility management in current IP network (that itself is a best effort based network) has a significantly high latency period and signaling overhead during handoff. In this paper, we propose a flow based forwarding scheme in mobile IPv6 networks to support realtime service provisioning by using the flow label field in IPv6 packets. The proposed scheme takes the advantages of rapid establishment of a flow and fast forwarding of packets based on flow state information. Our scheme describes a fast flow handoff algorithm and follows it up with an optimal partitioning of QoS classes based on flow based maps
