  • Abstract
The high temperature damage index series of 25 stations were calculated from 1960 to 2007, and these series were consisted of a matrix. After doing EOF to the matrix, two meaningful eigenvector fields were got, and therefore two main patterns about the spatial distribution of the high temperature damage to Rice in Jiangsu were found: the whole distribution pattern and the south-north distribution pattern. A wavelet analysis was made to the high temperature damage index, time-coefficients of the first and the second eigenvectors, the results showed that there were inter-annual periodic variations of quasi-biennial, 3 to 4 years, 4 to 6 years, and 8 years, and interdecadal periodic variations of 12 to 16 years, as well as abrupt changes, in Jiangsu in recent 48 years; the high temperature damage to rice in Jiangsu was the composite result of multi-scale periodic fluctuations. It was also found that the south-north distribution pattern had significant 3-4 year periodic variation after the mid-80s
