Abstract :
The study on spatial evolution of urban landscape pattern can provide a technical and decision-making support for the city´s sustainable development. In the paper, based on the two remote sensing images in 1985 and 2002, the land utilization information of two different periods was gained with the auxiliary of the GIS and RS and the changes in land use were analyzed. In addition, quantitative analysis of the spatial changes of landscape pattern in Zhengzhou City was carried out by applying the theory of landscape ecology. The results indicated that the residential land area has increased considerably, the industrial land had taken on a tendency of outward migration, the greenbelts has increased but scattered and the landscape fragmentation and spatial heterogeneity have been enhanced to some extent in the process of urbanization over the past 17 years in Zhengzhou City.
