Abstract :
Large Scale 3D Terrain Generation is a hot and difficult problem in many applications, such as Geographic Information System (GIS), Virtual Reality (VR) and 3D games. The key issues of 3D terrain Generation are how to store massive terrain data and how to simplify terrain model. For the storage and management of massive terrain data, an organization approach based on terrain partition and tile pyramid model is put forward in this paper. And the improved LOD Quad-tree algorithm in this paper offers a good solution to the second problem. The experiment results show that large-scale 3D terrain generation can get good performance and displaying rate by the technology of this paper.
