Abstract :
Special functions with multiple values in solving the possible modes (guided and leaky) of the circular dielectric rod are analyzed in detail in this paper. By taking consideration of the physical meaning of these modes, the possible solutions are well defined and classified based on different types of special functions and Riemann sheets. Characteristic equations can be used to solve different types of modes are exhibited completely.
