Abstract :
Preventive maintenance of induction motors has an important role in reducing expensive shutdowns due to motor faults. Motor Current Signature Analysis, MCSA, provides a simple way to evaluate the health of a machine. In this paper, two different wavelet based methods are proposed to detect broken rotor bar faults in three phase induction motors. The methods are in addition examined on laboratory experimental data where broken rotor bars are detected successfully. Moreover, the proposed criteria are compared in different aspects like the correlation between them and fault level, their computational load and their ability of differentiation between healthy condition and other faulty conditions. Finally one of the proposed methods is suggested for implementation in future systems.
