Abstract
A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) in hierarchical structure with adaptive functions and supervisory rule sets is analyzed through computer simulations and actual plant experiments. The performance of the adaptive hierarchical fuzzy logic controller (AHFLC) is compared with that of the standard FLC. Both controllers perform well under normal conditions. However, as the system becomes more complicated, oscillatory and noisy, standard FLC can no longer give a satisfactory control. On the other hand, AHFLC can still provide a good and stable control action under the situations for which the standard FLC cannot fully handle
