Abstract
Summary form only given. We have investigated the response of sub-micrometer dimension spin-valve devices to shoIt magnetic field pulses 1 SO ps in dmtion, and step pulses with sub-nanosecond risetime. The field pulses are oriented along the hard axis, transverse to the long axis of the device to drive magnetization rotation in the device free layer. The devices exhibit a rotation risethe of 150 ps and damped free oscillations in a range of 2-3 GHz.
