Abstract :
Two approaches for mounting spiral antennas on a typical ground vehicle are considered. Firstly, a cavity-backed aperture is flushed in the vehicles body. Secondly, spiral antenna is mounted in front of the vehicle. While the former approach is utilized more frequently, the later provides greater gain and efficiency at the lower end and comparable gain and efficiency at higher frequencies while maintaining good axial ratio. Effects of real soils on the performances in both cases are also considered.
