Abstract
This paper presents the electrical characterization of a coil in seawater for an undersea wireless power transfer system. A comparison is first made between Kraichman and Wait´s expressions for the resistance of a coil in seawater. Then an experiment is performed by submerging a circular coil in seawater. A comparison is also made for a circular coil placed within a glass sphere and submerged in the ocean. T he measurements indicate higher resistance for a coil placed directly in seawater than in a glass sphere.
