Abstract :
The new synthesis algorithm iterates the weighting function in a weighted sum of squared pattern errors. At each iteration, the element weights minimize this sum. In a way similar to Olen and Compton´s adaptive synthesis algorithm, sidelobe requirements are conveniently met, but unlike their algorithm, mainbeam shaping is provided without the need for multiple constraints. Peak-only iteration makes this synthesis algorithm computationally efficient so that it can be combined with the sample matrix inversion algorithm to create a new real-time adaptive beamforming algorithm with improved beam pattern control in comparison with conventional tapering
